![]() I do wish there was more storytelling overall, but I appreciated the more intimate nature of the game comparable to the first (I kinda find Shenmue II to be exhausting, personally). His attempt at a different ending isn't a bad idea at all, though it is hard to say if it it would even fit in with what is planned for Lan Di. I hope Shenmue IV can heavily refine these mechanics because many of them fit quite well into the world of Shenmue I think. A friend of mine that appreciates the first two games but cannot fully enjoy them due to stuff like the skill-based combat system actually was able to enjoy III all of the way through so I absolutely see where Yu Suzuki was going for with some of the more controversial aspects of the game. In focusing on a Chinese release of the game, they actually had to kinda arbitrarily rework a lot of how that portion of the game worked as you are not allowed to have clear gambling for money in games there.Īnyways, I do not really disagree with Super Eyepatch Wolf on most things here (the combat especially is effectively impossible to defend), but I actually did grow to love the stamina system and some other divisive elements of the game quite a lot. ![]() There is a good explanation for how the gambling is handled in the game. The team that made this working with Yu Suzuki to do a final chapter would be a dream. I know people don't like the comparisons to Yakuza but I'm playing Judgement at the moment and it feels far closer to what a modern Shenmue should/could be. I truly believe there's potential for a great new Shenmue game but it's not going to happen. The criticisms in the video are all valid, Once the nostalgia wears off all you're really left with is some pretty environments and returning characters.There's No story progression, bad combat and grindy gameplay to fill out the runtime. Younger me would never have believed that I'd drop Shenmue 3 like that. I backed Shenmue 3 but when I hit the credits I never went back to it and haven't bothered with the DLC. I played through Shenmue 1 again on Xbox One when it was on gamepass. I finished them countless times on Dreamcast, replayed Shenmue 2 on Xbox and Platinumed the HD collection on PS4.
